![]() A newcomer in the chat messaging apps, with audio & video is called "Ring", but I have not yet been able to test this with anyone, but I do have it installed. There are also secure SIP/Voip applications that are free and easy to install and use that also do text, voice (audio, phone call), and or video, like "Linphone" or "Ekiga" (Linphone is more secure). I always have "qTox" (see below) running and a secure multiple account IM chat messaging application running like "Jitsi", or Pidgin (with OTR plugin), (Mint Users also have Empathy, KDE Telepathy, KDE Kopete), so that I can communicate with any other friends or family or business associates regardless of what chat servers they use and at onetime in one application. These are commonly referred to as multi-media messaging clients, or "Skype alternatives", and Skype is not secure, but it does work well in all platforms. I always want to have the option to have secure text IM chat ability, but if I want to have real-time talk (voice, audio) like a phone call, or start a video call, then I want those abilities as well. These are usually not secure, unless you and the other users setup or go into a secure "private" chat room and you and the others in that chatroom have encryption in use. "Hexchat" & "Konversation" are for IRC chatting which is usually for getting help from or for various things, including Linux Mint, or some software or hardware developer, some people use them for chat rooms and communicating to a lot of people at one time around various themes personal and otherwise. For example, I have 2 Google Mail accounts and thus 2 Google Chat / Hangout accounts, and I test various software and services for this forum's members, so I have 3 xmpp (jabber) accounts, a Facebook account, a Skype account, a free Linphone (sip-voip) account, etc. There are many posts in this forum on this topic, if you search for "Skype", etc.Ī lot depends upon what you want to do, and whether you and your friends and family have multiple chat accounts from various chat servers like Google Mail (Google Hangouts/Talk), xmpp, Facebook, Skype, yahoo, AOL, sip/voip, Telegram, etc. I just read your post and the good replies to it. ![]() Hi "MurphCID", and Anyone Else Interested in this,
